Finding The Ham Radio Club That’s Right For Me

Shortly after I went to my first ham radio club meeting, I instantly regretted it. I simply didn't feel like I belonged. The people were nice, and I know the club does a lot of stuff for the ham community, but it wasn't a club that fit. It took me a while to figure out why, but I learned that it didn't fit because I felt no sense of belonging and because the club was way too big. Massively big. Please don't misunderstand me. It's a great club, but just like shoes, certain clubs don't fit . . . . . . . . . . . . read the rest by clicking here

My First Radio Club Meeting

As I studied for my amateur radio license exam, multiple study sources said that getting involved with a local ham radio club is important. Since I've been licensed for over a month, I figured it was about time to sit in at a meeting of one of the local clubs here in south west Idaho. That's what I did. My thoughts after the meeting? Meh. Repeaters, Repeaters, Repeaters — What’s The Point?

I know the virtues of repeaters, and the vast leaps of technology they have spawned. But whats the point of operating them if no one uses them? Ham Radio Curmudgeons

I've only been part of the ham radio hobby for a month, but I've spent much of my limited free time with my HT (a Yaesu FT-60R). I've made a few dozen QSO's (contacts) with my radio, and have spent a lot of time just listening, which I have learned is a very important aspect of ham radio. Nearly everyone I contact and nearly everyone I listen to via ham frequencies are friendly, respectful, and helpful if I ever have questions. But every once in a while, I'll contact or listen to someone that . . . . . . . . . . . . read the rest by clicking here

About Me, W7KBX

My name is Kyle, and I'm an amateur radio operator, also known as a ham. I've been interested in ham radio ever since I was a young boy, but other interests took priority. After graduating from high school, I went on a mission for my church, went to college, fell in love, married, and have created four children (my wife did most of the work). I love teaching my kids and they love asking questions. One of my kids recently asked questions about radio and how it works. In the process of teaching . . . . . . . . . . . . read the rest by clicking here
